Men's Golf Finishes Eighth At Murray State Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. - The Lewis University men's golf squad finished eighth in the 14-team 2008 Murray State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. Lewis (291-293-296=880) had two golfers finish in the top 30.

Junior Paul Dagys (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) shot a team-best 218 (71-73-74) to tie for 25th. Just a shot back was senior Greg Roderique (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley). He finished with a 219 (75-72-72). Junior Peter Tanaka (Naperville, Ill/Waubonsie Valley) followed up two 73s with a 75 round on Tuesday to shoot a 221 and tie for 31st. Sophomore Logan Watts (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) wasn't far back, shooting a 222 (72-75-75) for 41st. Freshman Stanley Wilczek (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) (86-75-82=243) was 81st.

Lewis also had two individual entrants. Sophomore Nick Quagliano (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) (79-76-79=234) tied for 70th. Sophomore John Whiting (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) (82-75-79=264) finished tied for 73rd.

"It was pretty hot on the course but the kids hung in there," head coach Dennis Troy said. "Greg stepped up as senior and played well."

Lewis finished five strokes ahead of Tennessee-Martin's second team and seven behind Tennessee Martin's first team. Murray State won the tournament with an 835 (272-279-284).

"It was a good test for the team," Troy said.  "Plus we had two play as individuals which was good experience for them."

The Flyers are back in action on Oct. 12 and 13 at the D.A. Weibring Invite.
